Tips of the Week

When Riding a colt, we must be aware of all of our surroundings. You never know when that colt is going to spook!!! I have been very fortunate to ride such an easy going colt as Joe, but, I tend to get too relaxed and forget that he is only TWO!!! Word to the wise, keep two hands on the reins at all times and keep you eyes on the wood,s trail, arena or where ever!! Then, maybe you will see the horse eating monster first and you can react before the colt does!!!
Breaking In A New Saddle

Well, I won a new Todd Slone Saddle and i am going through the motions of breaking it in! I figured you guys could use some help on that as well!!!

FIRST...Oil the saddle with Lexol....make sure to pay attention to the back side of the stirrups! Let it dry while you are turning the stirrups! How do you do that??? Well, Have it on a saddle stand...or saw horses. Turn the stirrups 3 times in the direction that you would naturally hold the stirrup. Rotate them 3 times and make sure that the leather on the fender is rolled. Stick a broom handle through both of the stirrups to hold them into place. Leave it like this for several hours! Over night...days...as long as you can.

Another tip is to get your fenders wet with water and ride in it! For rough out, the only thing I can find to break that in is to ride in it a whole lot!!! If you seat is squeaky, turn the saddle over and put baby powder on the tree! Works wonders!

Overall, the best thing you can do is ride the leather off of a new saddle! Have fun!!!
